Supplier Resources For VaporFox

Overview

This page is to provide help and assistance for webmasters of online stores that sell e-cigarettes and related products. It includes information on how to make sure that your web site and products are listed correctly in the VaporFox search engine.

How VaporFox Collects Information

VaporFox uses a program called a web spider, or web crawler to collect information from web sites in the same manner as Google, Yahoo!, Bing and other search engines. The web crawler that VaporFox uses is called the VaporFox Hound.

The VaporFox Hound visits web pages and catalogs information about the products being sold. Our cutting-edge technology allows us to extract information from merchant Web sites without harming their web servers, and post that information in a comprehensive manner for our users. We do not currently accept data feeds from merchants, but will work with you to ensure the VaporFox Hound is accurately picking up data on your site.

When VaporFox Collects Information

VaporFox will crawl your web site in such a manner that there will never be more than one request per minute, and the requests will be spanned across a 24 hour period. Since the VaporFox Hound only collects the underlying HTML code from each page, and not any other data aside from the product image (if found), the impact on your web site traffic and bandwidth will be minimal.

Best Practices For Webmasters

In order to make sure that the VaporFox Hound will accurately collect the information from your web site, we recommend the following Best Practices:

  • Use a Proper Shopping Cart - Software such as Vollusion, OSCommerce, Zen Cart, etc. present the information about the products that you sell in the best manner. Web stores which are nothing but a single page of products with PayPal "Buy Now" buttons, or sites that list multiple products on a single page will not work and will be removed from the VaporFox index.
  • Use Descriptive Links - Make sure that the home page and category pages of your web store use descriptive links for each of your products.

    Examples of good descriptive link are "10mg 30ml Menthol E-Liquid PG" or "DSE-901/DSE-901b Battery Flat Black Blue LED". Links to simply "Batteries", "E-Liquid" or "Atomizer" will not assist buyers in finding the products they want on your web site. The trick is to be as descriptive as possible without having the link be 100+ characters long.

    (Links on e-commerce sites are usually generated by the Category and Product Titles)
  • Keep Links Updated - If your web store contains many links to invalid pages such as products that are no longer available or do not exist in your store, related products may be removed from the VaporFox index for your web store.
  • Write A Meta Description - VaporFox reads the META tags on the front page of your web store and uses the META description tag as a description for your web site. Add this meta tag to your HTML code if you do not have one already:

    <meta name="description" content="This is my store description">
  • Control Web Spiders - You can use a file called robots.txt and meta tags to control the behavior of web crawlers on your web site. Information specific to VaporFox can be found here.

These suggestions are simply that - suggestions on how to make sure that VaporFox will be able to best represent your store and your product offerings. These suggestions may also help your web site achieve good results from other search engines as well.

We are committed to providing the best service possible to both consumer and supplier - your recommendations are welcomed.
